Lil Tay stirs fears among fans by claiming she is in hospital – one year after death rumors

Influencer and rapper Lil Tay has sparked fear among her fans when she claimed she was in hospital – a year after alleging her father faked her death.

On Wednesday, her X-account mentioned that there was “devastating news regarding Tay,” followed by another post that said, “Please pray for Tay,” who is “battling a life-threatening emergency.”

Late Thursday morning, the account posted another cryptic message reading, “Tay is currently in serious condition in the intensive care unit,” alongside a picture of a sign reading “Pediatric Intensive Care Unit” in a hospital hallway.

A spokesperson for Lil Tay told DailyMail.com that this was not a joke and that it had nothing to do with last year's incident.

The latest news came just a year after the “Sucker 4 Green” artist, who rose to fame at the age of nine by starring in a series of raunchy rap videos, falsely reported the death of her brother Jason.

Late Thursday morning, the account posted another cryptic message reading, “Tay is currently in serious condition in the intensive care unit,” alongside an image of a pediatric intensive care unit sign.

Her recent alarming posts quickly caught the attention of her fans, with some sending her well wishes while others speculating whether they were true.

“Oh my god… I hope she's ok and recovering!! Take care, love from all of us,” wrote one concerned fan.

“I am praying for him and hope for a full recovery,” said another.

Others were not so convinced, with one writing: “She's basically saying she's about to release a new album…”

“We have to see the operation, otherwise you are lying,” said another.

The teenager, who was born Claire Hope but has since confirmed her real name is Tay Tian, later revealed that her Instagram account had been “hacked.”

“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I am completely heartbroken and struggling to find the right words,” Lil Tay told TMZ last August.

Her recent alarming posts caught the attention of fans, some of whom sent her congratulations, while others speculated whether they were true.

“It's been a very traumatic 24 hours. Yesterday I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful calls from loved ones all day while I tried to sort out this mess.”

The influencer, who made headlines in 2018 when she was accused of abuse by her father Christopher Hope and exploitation by her brother, failed to reveal why it took her more than 24 hours to confirm that she was alive and well.

Regarding the post that sparked the death rumors, Tay insisted that her Instagram account was “compromised by a third party” and “used to spread shocking misinformation and rumors” about her.

The young star also confirmed that she had gained access to her account after the false report.

It is currently unclear who exactly controls the young personality's social media pages, which are full of controversial statements on politics and sexuality, among other things.

She further announced that she no longer performs under her birth name Claire Hope, which was used in the now-deleted false obituary.

She now uses her legal name Tay Tian after apparently dropping her estranged father's surname in favor of her mother Angela's name.

Shortly after Lil Tay's statement was released, social media was abuzz with speculation about the legitimacy of her claims. Many users questioned why it took her so long to respond to the fabricated death rumors, while others speculated that the entire hoax was a desperate attempt to gain publicity.

“So are Lil Tay and her brother dead or alive? Because the way this statement was worded and then it took a full 24 hours to get out is still very weird,” one person wrote.

“Let's say Lil Tay's Instagram was hacked… what would be the motive for claiming the brother is dead too?? This whole thing is really confusing,” said another.

A third wrote: “I'm guessing Lil Tay was alive and this was a wild publicity stunt.”

After the obituary was posted on Lil Tay's Instagram account – which had been inactive since June 2018 – the influencer gained more than 200,000 new followers.

Her account currently has 5.2 million followers, but there are no posts on her page.

The fake obituary post, which has since been removed, said: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden and tragic death of our beloved Claire.”

“We lack the words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This result was completely unexpected and has shocked us all. The death of her brother adds even more depth to our grief.

“During this time of immense grief, we politely request privacy as we mourn this overwhelming loss as the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother's deaths remain under investigation.”

It concluded: “Claire will remain in our hearts forever. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void that will be felt by all who knew and loved her.”

Following the post's publication, numerous news outlets around the world reported on Tay's death – which quickly became shrouded in mystery when her own father stated that he could not confirm whether she was alive or dead.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Vancouver, where Christopher lives, and Los Angeles, where Lil Tay had lived with her mother, had no record of any investigation into the deaths of Claire or her brother Jason when contacted by DailyMail.com.

Lil Tay's former manager Harry Tsang caused further confusion when he made a cryptic statement about the news, refusing to “confirm” that the rapper had indeed died.

She suddenly came into the spotlight in 2017 after she began posting a series of controversial and bizarre videos online that showed her using the N-word and getting into fights with strangers.

She quickly gained millions of followers – but her bizarre clips left some people on the Internet worried about her well-being.

Rumors soon began to circulate that her family had forced her to participate in the videos. These rumors were fueled even more when footage surfaced online that appeared to show her then-16-year-old brother Jason instructing her on what to say.

Lil Tay caused even greater concern in July 2018 when she posted a chilling message on her Instagram stories asking for help, only to suddenly delete all of her videos hours later.

Four months later, an anonymous person began posting harrowing messages on her account claiming that her allegedly abusive father, Chris Hope, was trying to take her away from her mother.

Her brother started a GoFundMe fundraising page for his sister in 2021, asking for donations to help Lil Tay “fight her abusive father.”

He shared disturbing images showing Lil Tay with a huge red mark on her cheek, which he claimed came from her father.

“Tay desperately needs money to support her fight against her abusive father,” he wrote in the description of the GoFundMe campaign.

“As of April 23, 2021, Tay will stand trial in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, against her absent father, Chris Hope, who, along with his wife Hanee Hope (formerly known as Richanee Alcover), physically and emotionally abused her.”

“Chris Hope is fighting to gain permanent control of her career and custody of her.”

He explained that Lil Tay had been “silent on social media” for the past three years because Chris “served the mother a court order demanding control over” her career and income.
