He then teased: “A friend who later chopped off both my legs and left me dying on the edge of a volcano, but I guess I kind of deserved that.”

Christensen stressed that McGregor's long-standing work as Obi-Wan represents a “master class in great acting.”

He continued: “Watching him play this character is like watching magic. Because he wasn't just playing Obi-Wan, he was Obi-Wan. I mean, he Is Obi Wan. And I really hope we get more Obi-Wan, because this man is just star Wars Gold.”

Christensen noted that McGregor “brought all the qualities we knew from the character” from Alec Guinness' portrayal of the older Obi-Wan in the original trilogy, while also “bringing his own depth and emotionality to the role.” He added, “I was just in awe the whole time.”

Christensen concluded, “So, my friend Ewan, I want to thank you for being the best Jedi Master anyone could ask for. You've always had my back, and I thank you for that. I'm just so happy to be here with you right now. It's been an honor and a thrill to work with you and to wield a lightsaber with you, and most of all, to call you my friend. I love you, brother.”

McGregor also praised Christensen in his own speech at the end of the ceremony. “We've grown up together in this crazy world for the last few years – it's been too many, 20, 30 years – and I love you so much.”

McGregor also reflected on the fact that his star on the Walk of Fame is only a few meters from his late star Wars Star of Hollywood legend Carrie Fisher. “I'm so touched to be standing here on the sidewalk next to my old friend Carrie Fisher,” he said. “This means a lot to me too.”
