Cleveland County Sheriff's Office confirms search is connected to Asha Degree

A search of a Shelby property this week conducted not only by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office but also by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the State Bureau of Investigations on Cherryville Road sparked a flood of speculation about the nature of the search and whether it was related to the disappearance of 9-year-old Asha Degree.

An official confirmation that there is a connection to the case was released on Friday afternoon, but law enforcement authorities stressed that no human remains were found.

At around 1:30 p.m., the sheriff's office broke its silence on the search and released a statement.

“The search warrants executed this week by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, FBI and SBI are related to the disappearance of Asha Degree,” the press release states. “The search warrants were obtained based on evidence directly related to Asha's disappearance. Several items of interest were taken from the locations and are being analyzed. It is important to dispel the rumors circulating about the investigation. No human remains were recovered. And again, no human remains were found. This investigation is ongoing and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office will release official information as needed. Please do not spread rumors on social media out of respect for Asha's family and this investigation.”

The hustle and bustle at the house and property at 621 Cherryville Road, owned by Roy Lee Dedmon, has led to wild speculation and rumors on social media. Various family members, including Asha's brother, have urged people to stop spreading false stories while investigators work to uncover the truth.

On Wednesday, an older green car was towed from the property. Its description was similar to a car that may have been involved in Asha's case.
