Man charged with murder after attack that left family of four dead in Irondequoit

Irondequoit, NY (WHAM) – Police announced Friday that they have arrested the man allegedly responsible for an attack that killed a family of four in Irondequoit last month.

Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano, 34, of the Dominican Republic, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 31 shooting deaths of Fraime Ubaldo, 30, Marrangely Moreno-Santiago, 26, Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2.

Firefighters found the victims' bodies while extinguishing several fires at their Knapp Avenue home that morning. Police said it quickly became clear that they had not been killed by the fire, but by something else.

“It appears this family was very well-liked and very active in their community. My sincere condolences, of course, go out to their family, friends and neighbors who have had to go through this,” said Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles.

According to the indictment, Pimentel-Soriano is accused of fatally stabbing each victim multiple times in the neck and chest with a sharp object.

“The allegations are obviously disturbing,” Duckles said. “They're difficult to handle. They're difficult to detect.”

Police are trying to locate other people in connection with the deaths.

“We believe there is at least one other actor that the Irondequoit Police Department is currently looking for,” Duckles said.

According to police, Pimentel-Soriano is also wanted for a 2019 murder in the Dominican Republic. He is said to have entered Puerto Rico illegally and obtained a fake New York ID that allowed him to travel to the U.S. mainland.

Duckles said he has not confirmed this information – but added that Pimentel-Soriano also uses the name Rafael Jose Vargas and has ties to the Rochester area.

“At this point, I cannot tell you whether he is here legally or illegally or how long he has been here,” Duckles said.

The murder remains under investigation, and Duckles said that includes the relationships of everyone involved.

“I think the community, the immediate community in this neighborhood, should be reassured that this did not happen randomly,” Duckles said. “I believe there is a motive. What the motive is, we are still investigating and I cannot tell you what it is at this point.”

The case has been referred to a grand jury. Pimentel-Soriano is being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Irondequoit police at (585) 336-6000 or Crime Stoppers at (585) 423-9300.
