Illegal immigrant from Dominican Republic suspected of involvement in murder of family in New York state, police say

Police announced Friday that they had arrested an illegal immigrant who they believe may be responsible for the murder of a family of four in upstate New York last month.

Irondequoit police announced in a post on X the arrest of 34-year-old Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano, originally from the Dominican Republic. Pimentel-Soriano is wanted in his home country for another murder in 2019.

On August 31, Fraime Ubaldo (30), Marrangely Moreno-Santiago (26), Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno (4) and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno (2) were murdered in their home in Irondequoit.

“It appears that Mr. Soriano entered the island of Puerto Rico illegally and obtained a fake New York ID,” the Irondequoit police post said. “With this ID, he was able to freely travel from Puerto Rico to the mainland United States.”

“Our condolences go out to the family, their friends and their neighbors,” Irondequoit City Councilwoman Andrae Evans told Spectrum News. “I am so sorry this happened, but I want you to know that the City Council and I will approve whatever is necessary for our police department to work together and use all resources to bring these people to justice.”

The family's bodies were discovered in the basement when firefighters were battling several fires in the house that morning. After further investigation, police were able to determine that the family's cause of death was not related to the fires.

For the past two weeks, an impromptu vigil has been held on the porch of the Moreno family's home on Knapp Avenue in Irondequoit, complete with stuffed animals and photos of the victims.

While police said limited information is being released at this time, efforts to seek justice for the Moreno family will continue as part of the ongoing Irondequoit Police Department investigation.
