Mariners Game #148, 9/13/24: SEA vs. TEX

After the devastating 5-4 opening loss against the Rangers last night, the M's want to get back on track tonight, but they have to do so without Luis Castillo.

Lineups:

For the fourth consecutive year, the M's will be using the same lineup. I wonder when that last happened. Emerson Hancock will take the ball in La Piedra's place, making his 10th start of the season in a perfectly cromulent role as the sixth starter. He went 6.2 innings in his last start in Tacoma, so Dan Wilson is probably hoping he can last at least five innings tonight, six if we're lucky. To make room for Hancock on the active roster, Seby Zavala has been designated for assignment.

For the Rangers, Jacob deGrom will make his long-awaited season debut. The towering right-hander posted a 1.54 FIP in six starts last year – a good reminder that while injuries have piled up over the past few seasons, he's still as good as it gets when he's healthy and available. The Mariners will no doubt have their hands full tonight.
