New York Knicks reportedly sign former LA Clippers guard

September is almost always a quiet month for NBA free agency, but there are still some veteran players waiting for their next chance in the league. Many teams only have training camp contracts to offer during this stage of the offseason, while others start the year with one or two open roster spots to maintain flexibility throughout the season.

In a report for ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday morning, it was announced that six-year guard Landry Shamet has signed with the New York Knicks.

About Wojnarowski: “Free agent G Landry Shamet has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Knicks, his agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group tells ESPN. Shamet has a career average of 8.7 points and 38 percent on three-point shots.”

Shamet began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, who selected him 26th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the LA Clippers mid-season.

After that trade, Shamet showed a lot of potential, averaging 10.9 points in 25 games (23 starts) with the Clippers in his rookie season. Shamet converted 45 percent of his threes on 6.0 attempts per game with LA that year and was a deadly three-point shooter.

Shamet has yet to reach the shooting percentage of his rookie season, but is still hitting 38.4 percent of his three-point shots on 4.9 attempts per game. The exact terms of Shamet's contract with New York were not disclosed, but Wojnarowski reported that it is a one-year deal.
