TSG loses strong double victory » TSG Hoffenheim

TSG Hoffenheim lost 1:4 (1:2) against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Leverkusen took the lead after a better opening phase through Martin Terrier (17th minute). Victor Boniface increased the lead after half an hour (30th minute), but TSG stayed in the game and reduced the deficit through Mergim Berisha (37th minute). TSG kept the game open for a long time, but Florian Wirtz restored the two-goal lead with a penalty (72nd minute). Shortly afterwards, Victor Bonifatius made it 1:4 (75th minute) to decide the game.

Setup

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made two changes compared to the 1:3 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. Florian Grillitsch started for Grischa Prömel, who had a cruciate ligament injury. Adam Hložek was out at short notice due to thigh problems, and Mergim Berisha moved into the starting eleven in his place.

Leverkusen takes the lead

Hoffenheim moved far back during the goal kick, a simple combination was enough for Bonifatius and Terrier to run towards Baumann. Bonifatius then crossed and Terrier only had to push it in.

Baumann parries brilliantly

Very strong from Baumann! Terrier crosses the ball into the center, Boniface wins the aerial duel against Drexler, but Baumann reacts strongly and directs the ball past the goal.

A long ball from Tah bypasses the entire defense and Bonifatius is able to storm towards the goal. Prass tried to disturb him, but Bonifatius made a hook and then sank the ball into the net.

Mergim Berisha's first goal in a TSG jersey! Kramaric crosses from the left into the box, where Berisha holds the ball firmly against Grimaldo and then scores from close range.

Baumann very strong against Bonifatius

TSG calls for a penalty, but the whistle does not come and Leverkusen counterattacks. Boniface is then free from the halfway line and runs towards Baumann, but the TSG keeper is quick to get to the corner and prevent the third goal.

Another short corner variation, Grimaldo shoots from the corner of the penalty area. Baumann is beaten, but Akpoguma is on the line and heads the ball out.
