TenZ announces retirement from competitive VALORANT and leaves behind an incomparable legacy

One of VALORANT’s GOATs is retiring as TenZ has announced his retirement from competitive gaming.

We love TenZ. But all good things must come to an end, as Tyson “TenZ” Ngo has announced his retirement from Sentinels and competitive VALORANT. The retirement announcement was made on his X account, and Sentinels also posted a tribute video with an announcement of their own.

According to TenZ, he knew it would be his last year in 2024, and he ends it as one of the most iconic professional esports players of the modern era, with multiple trophies and many highlights under his belt.

TenZ has been a professional FPS player for many years, starting with his Counter-Strike career. From his days of subtLe to his time at Cloud9, he made a name for himself with his incredible aim and game feel even as a kid.

Anyone familiar with esports knows TenZ from CS:GO or VALORANT and his retirement will probably seem a little sad to them. We can call this the end of an era, which only happens a few times in a lifetime.

A look at TenZ's VALORANT career

When he moved to VALORANT, TenZ, like so many others, returned to Cloud9. He represented them as a player and streamer for a year before moving to Sentinels on loan. From there, SEN took on his full contract and has been part of the organization since early 2021.

His time with Sentinels had its ups and downs, but the highs are some of the most talked about moments in VALORANT history. He helped the team win Stage 1 Masters in 2021 and then win Masters in Reykjavik at the first international VCT tournament.

Performances at Masters Berlin and other offseason events have established TenZ as a must-watch VALORANT talent, and he now says goodbye after winning the Masters Madrid 2024 trophy with Sentinels and finishing in the top 4 at Champions in Seoul.

That doesn't mean TenZ is gone for good, as he explains in his VALORANT retirement announcement. He's still part of the Sentinels organization and will continue to create content. He's left himself open the option to step in as a substitute player should the VALORANT team need him, and there are plenty of other opportunities to look forward to.

I wish him the best of luck in the future and stay tuned to esports.gg for more esports news and VALORANT coverage.
