Martin Short hilariously mocked Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show

Martin Short is the king of wit, whether he is arguing with longtime collaborator Steve Martin or donning the prosthetics to play his character as entertainment reporter Jiminy Glick. And during his visit on September 10th to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Alongside Selena Gomez and Martin, Short continued his tradition of practicing his razor-sharp wit on Jimmy Fallon.

How to watch

Regard The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on NBC weekdays at 11:35/10:35c and the next day on Peacock.

“We're here because we love you,” Short said on behalf of the Emmy-nominated trio, before adding, “And we're also here because Colbert has gotten a little more picky.”

“Okay, sure,” said Fallon.

“But you honestly have the best staff,” Short continued. “Oh, my God. And they're all – they're so nice. They come up to me and they all start the conversation with the same question: 'Are you hiring?'”

As Gomez and Martin laughed, Short continued, “But this show is truly remarkable. They broke the glass ceiling for middle-aged white men in show business.”

“I’m touched!” said Fallon, ever the good sportsman.

Short wasn't the only one who came up with some nice one-liners.

“You know, Steve and Marty are always beaming at me,” Gomez said. “And then one day I realized it was just the lights of their iPhones still glowing in their pockets.”

“We're always learning,” Martin interjected. “But you know, Marty always looks great. And it's not easy wearing a full-body compression suit!”

“No, listen, I accept that I'm 70. Time has scarred me,” Short said, lest you think he's saving all his burns for others. “I accept that. In fact, I have a GoFundMe page just for my neck.”

“Jimmy, you know, somebody told me you're turning 50 next week,” Short told Fallon as the audience erupted in applause. “And I thought, 'That can't be true.' And then as I sat here… I realized it could be true.”

Martin Shorts also criticized Jimmy Fallon as Jiminy Glick

Roastmaster Short has a long history on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonincluding the following visit from 2017.

“How brave are you?! To do a whole monologue and not worry about the audience's reaction – that's a fascinating new approach in show business,” Short said to a giggling Fallon.

And when Fallon sat down with Jiminy Glick in 2014, an (apparent) fight almost broke out between the two.
