  • How to watch: The show is airing live on ABC and can be streamed through live TV streaming services that include ABC in their lineup, like Hulu+ Live TV, YouTube TV and FuboTV.
  • What’s nominated: “Shogun” could be in for an epic night, “The Bear” could clean up for the second time in less than a year, and “Baby Reindeer” has gone from dark horse to contender. See the full list of nominees.

Did Lorne Michaels really lose 85 Emmys?

Accepting the Emmy for writing for a variety special, Alex Edelman spoke of how much he missed Adam Brace, the director of “Just for Us” who died in 2023.

“He passed away a few weeks before we started on Broadway, and over the last year, performing the thing we created together made me feel tethered to him even though he’d gone,” he posted on Instagram in April. “That tether sometimes has been a source of comfort and sometimes a source of real sadness. Most of the time it’s been a mix.”

D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai of “Reservation Dogs” made his way across the carpet with a red hand painted across his face.

Woon-A-Tai was nominated for lead actor in a comedy. Woon-A-Tai wore the paint to draw attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women, his representative said.

Mau was the first trans Latina to be nominated in the category. Diane Lane, the final nominee in the category nominated for “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” received her third nomination for her performance, but has never taken home a trophy.

What TV viewers can’t see during commercial breaks

Commercial breaks mean the race for the bathrooms and lobby is on. Audience members head out for one reason or another. As the show drags on, it’s usually to satiate thirst or hunger. Timing is everything though. Those who don’t return in time are held at the back of the theater until the next break.

Speeches hint at politics

“Vote for your rights,” Liza Colón-Zayas said, accepting her Emmy.

Billy Crudup shouted out wife Naomi Watts, noting she was an immigrant.

Four awards into an Emmy telecast in an election year, and the speeches have begun touching on politics, albeit briefly (host Eugene Levy begged for brevity if winners went there).

As the first Indigenous woman nominated for an Emmy, for “True Detective: Night Country,” Kali Reis said she wanted to honor her roots in the northeast woodland tribe of the Seaconke Wampanoag people. Her deep purple velvet tuxedo look also symbolized wampum.

“So purple is the color of wampum and wampum is a quahog shell, which we make jewelry out of, and the more purple it is the more valuable,” she said. “It means a lot. And I just really wanted to represent where I come from.”

Her feathers from an elder back home were in her hair, done in a long braid down her back.
