[Editor’s Note: This story was first published on February 14, 2023. However, the zoo has re-introduced the same fundraiser this year.]

The San Antonio Zoo in the USA is hosting a fundraiser where people can name a cockroach, rodent or vegetable after their “not so special someone”.

The cockroach, rodent or vegetable is then fed to an animal at the zoo as part of a creative Valentine's Day fundraiser.

The zoo has asked interested customers to make a donation of $5, $10 or $25 in return.

As part of the Cry Me a Cockroach campaign, donors will receive a digitally downloadable Valentine's Day card to express their support for the campaign.

You can also send your not-so-special someone a Valentine's Day card and tell them that they were named after a cockroach, rodent or vegetable and fed to an animal at the San Antonio Zoo.

The zoo also offers a $150 upgrade that creates a personalized video message showing the cockroach, rodent or vegetable that is fed to one of the zoo's animals, which the donor can then send to their “not-so-special someone.”

The money raised through the fundraiser will go towards their mission to secure the future of wildlife.
