Trump sends Melania a message for Valentine's Day about his criminal proceedings

Former President Trump wished former First Lady Melania Trump a happy Valentine's Day on Wednesday and thanked her for her support during his various criminal cases.

In a campaign email sent Wednesday morning, Trump offered a “letter” with the subject “I love you, Melania!”

“Dear Melania, I LOVE YOU. Even after every single accusation, arrest, and witch hunt, you never left my side,” he wrote in the message. “You have always supported me through everything. Without your guidance, kindness, and warmth, I would not be the man I am today..

“You will always mean the world to me, Melania! With love from your husband, Donald J. Trump,” the former president concluded.

Readers were then directed to a website where they could leave their own Valentine's Day message or donate to his re-election campaign.

The former president is accused of 91 serious crimes in four federal and state indictments, all of which he himself described as a political “witch hunt” to prevent his re-election in November.

Trump's main Republican challenger, Nikki Haley, sent her own Valentine's Day message to the former president.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, I love dictators and they love me back! Happy Valentine's Day from Donald Trump to all dictators around the world!” Haley's presidential campaign wrote in an emailed statement, mocking the former president.

“Over the years, Trump has professed his love for the world's most brutal dictators and praised their strength and leadership,” the statement said.

The campaign then listed a number of remarks by Trump in which he expressed kindness or even love toward some foreign dictators.

One of the examples the campaign pointed to was Trump's 2019 story in which he claimed he had received about half a dozen letters from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“He wrote me beautiful letters, and they are great letters,” Trump said at a rally in West Virginia in 2019. “We fell in love.”

Haley has repeatedly criticized Trump for his apparent friendliness toward foreign leaders during the campaign, including Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to national poll numbers from The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters, Trump is 61.4 points ahead of Haley nationwide and 32.7 points ahead in Haley's home state of South Carolina.
