We now know who plays Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine

In a trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, we got a glimpse of a surprising, never-before-seen character that had us all wondering, “Who is she?” I'm talking about Lady Deadpool, of course.

In a cinematic universe obsessed with multiverses, it was inevitable that Lady Deadpool would show up sooner or later. But we were all admittedly curious about which actress was hiding behind the blonde hair and red and black mask. Thanks to the film's credits and her own Instagram confession, we now know: It's Blake Lively.

Lively, a successful actress known for “The Big Bang,” “Gossip Girl,” “Green Lantern,” and many others, also happens to be the wife of Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. In her post, she writes about how she was on “Gossip Girl” in 2010 and was about to film “Green Lantern” with Ryan Reynolds when he first told them about the “meta” superhero Deadpool.

“Most of us didn't really know what meta meant back then,” she says. “Except Taika, because he was always more brilliant than the rest of us mere mortals. We understood it in theory, but how it would fit together for an audience was unclear, to everyone except him. It wasn't a real dream. The film could never have happened.”

She further shares a screenshot from Deadpool comic book writer Rob Liefeld, in which he writes that he based an unmasked drawing of Lady Deadpool on Lively in her role as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. Although the post is from 2022, he originally drew this in 2010, unaware that Lively was working with Reynolds.

“The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes.”

We won't reveal what role Lady Deadpool plays in Deadpool & Wolverine – she's small but mighty. In the comics, she's Wanda Wilson, a female counterpart to Deadpool from another reality who fights against fascism. Will we see her more often in future films? That's not yet certain.

We gave Deadpool & Wolverine a 7/10 in our review, calling it an “outrageous, consistently funny superhero comedy that succeeds largely thanks to the infectious enthusiasm of leads Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and a surprisingly classy perspective on superhero movie history.” If you've already seen the film, we have a guide to every Easter egg we could find in it, as well as a great interview with Kevin Feige about the film.
