Grace Jordan IS Shirley Valentine

It was 20 years ago when Grace Jordan first wowed audiences on Pender Island with her interpretation of Shirley Valentine in an outdoor summer play.

For those who don't know Willy Russell's award-winning play, it's about a middle-aged woman who is dissatisfied with her role as a housewife and who is transformed by a trip to Greece with a friend. Although the subject matter is serious, the play is full of humor.

Having performed as Shirley Valentine several times in various venues since her debut as Pender, Jordan is performing the show one final time, from Thursday, August 1st through Monday, August 5th, at her family's beautiful estate, Stonewell Farm, located at 1852 Fulford-Ganges Rd. on Lee's Hill. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and audience members can get into the spirit of the play with Greek tapas, desserts, wine and other beverages. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Jordan production is unique in its intimacy and charm: performed by a family-run theater group, outdoors on their own farm and with homemade delicacies.

Tickets are available online through Eventbrite or for cash at the door. Guests should bring lawn chairs, blankets and pillows, although some bench seating will be available.

The event is also a benefit for the organization “Islanders Working Against Violence”.
