Heritage Days 2024 in Le Raincy (93): the program in the city

The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) will take place this weekend, September 21-22, 2024, in Paris and the Île-de-France. In Seine-Saint-Denis, Le Raincy is presenting its program of visits and events.

La Fontaine School

  • Visit to the La Fontaine school in Raincy
    Saturday, 21 September, 10:00 a.m.

    After passing through the gates, guarded by immortalized peacocks and cats, you will be offered a guided tour by a member of the Société Historique du Raincy et du Pays d'Aulnoye.
    You will discover the decor inspired by the fables of La Fontaine that adorns the rooms visited by many generations of Raincy students.

Church of Notre-Dame de Consolation

  • Self-guided tour of the Notre-Dame du Raincy church
    21 and 22 September

    Notre-Dame du Raincy is the first church in the world to be built entirely of reinforced concrete. A masterpiece of the architect Auguste Perret, it celebrated its centenary on June 18, 2023.
    The chapel was declared a historic monument in 1966 and is now recognized worldwide as a symbol of 20th century architecture. Le Corbusier called it the “Holy Chapel of Reinforced Concrete”.
    On this tour, discover the work of a bold, innovative architect and renowned artists – Maurice Denis, Antoine Bourdelle and Marguerite Huré.
    With the recently completed restoration of the bell tower, the building was given a new face to mark its centenary!
    You will be welcomed by volunteers from the RESTAURER association, who will share their passion for the building with you.

    21 and 22 September

    On this tour, discover how a courageous, innovative architect and renowned artists – Maurice Denis, Antoine Bourdelle and Marguerite Huré – managed to build a monument in just thirteen months!
    Your guide will explain how Auguste Perret combined his talent as an architect with the performance of reinforced concrete to design a large religious building on a particularly tight budget.
    He will also show you the magnificent stained glass windows by Marguerite Huré, which adorn the entire walls of the church and flood them with colour. Particular attention is paid to the ten figurative stained glass windows by Maurice Denis, including the one commemorating the departure of the Marne taxis for the Battle of the Ourcq.
    Volunteers from the RESTAURER Notre-Dame du Raincy association will share their passion with you on this guided tour.

Church of Saint-Louis du Raincy

  • Self-guided tour of the Saint-Louis du Raincy Church
    Saturday, 21 September, 2:00 p.m.

    Visitors can admire the side façade of the church, whose architecture is typical of the castle's park buildings and was redesigned by the famous Scottish gardener Thomas Blaikie for the Duke of Orléans.
    Inside, attention is particularly drawn to the monumental paintings in the choir and two remarkable statues: “The Guardian Angel Offering a Repentant Sinner to God” and Saint Louis de Gonzague, both from the collection of the Musée du Luxembourg.
    Moderated by volunteers from the Société Historique du Raincy et du Pays d'Aulnoye (SHRPA).
