Journées du Patrimoine 2024: Discover the Maison Poincaré, the mathematics museum in Paris

On September 21 and 22, 2024, the Maison Poincaré would like to share with you the love of mathematics through various events organized as part of the Journées du Patrimoine.

Opened in September 2023 in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, House of Poincaré is dedicated Mathematics, its links with other scientific disciplines and its influence on our society and our daily lives. Children and adults can discover mathematics from a new perspective thanks to a guided tour and interactive modules. Physics, chemistry, but also philosophy, culture, art… Mathematics is everywhere!

At 21 and 22 September 2024The Maison Poincaré opens its doors to the public for free for an extraordinary weekend. The Paris museum is taking part in the 41st Heritage Travelwhich offer special events on both days.

Like every year Journées du Patrimoine (Days of Heritage ) enchant us with their open doors, workshops, visits and extraordinary discoveries and allow us to discover the cultural and historical sites of Paris and thatÎle-de-France Region. An event not to be missed that can be experienced in House of Poincaré on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

On the programme of these Heritage Days at Maison Poincaré:

  • Mathematics and art at Maison Poincaré
    Saturday, 21 September, 10:00 a.m.

Exceptionally, the Maison Poincaré opens its doors with free admission and offers flash mediation sessions on mathematics and art throughout the day without reservation.
(Please note: The Holo-Math experiment is subject to a fee, a reservation is recommended).

  • The path of a geometric work: the Rulpidon
    Saturday, 21 September, 3:00 p.m.

Join us for our talk on the Rulpidon, the geometric work by the sculptor Ulysse Lacoste that adorns the RESPIRER | Jardin Jacqueline Ferrand room of the museum. This emblematic sculpture of the Maison Poincaré complements the historical collections of the Institut Henri Poincaré, rich in nearly 600 mathematical models that will also be discussed at this meeting. The Rulpidon is a geometric curiosity that particularly fascinated the mathematician Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage because this simple, mobile form combines art and mathematics.
This meeting will be followed by a book signing by the author of the book Le Rulpidon sous toutes ses coutures. Une aventure mathématique et artistique (Dunod, 2024), in the presence of the sculptor Ulysse Lacoste and the mathematician and director of the IHP Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage.

After this visit, you won't want to go home: discover the other museums open during the Journées du Patrimoine.
