Young Sheldon star reveals shocking injury with heartbreaking appeal to fans

Everyone's favorite sassy grandma of young Sheldon has a message for you: don't drive under the influence, and wish her all the best for her heartbreaking surgery.

As if the end of Season 7 of “Young Sheldon” – and George’s death – weren’t emotional enough, the drama continued off-screen for some of the “Young Sheldon” cast members.

This week, all eyes are on Annie Potts, who played Meemaw in the prequel to The Big Bang Theory. She opened up to her followers on TikTok and Instagram and revealed that she is going to the hospital for her 26th surgery after an accident involving drunk drivers.

In an emotional video, Potts explained: “I was just thinking that I could ask people to think of me because I have to go into hospital tomorrow and have an operation to replace a knee.

“It's been replaced once before. This is about my 25th or 26th surgery… I've kind of lost track. Fifty years ago, some drunk teenagers were drag racing on the wrong side of the road and hit me, and I broke every bone below my waist except one.”

Potts ends her heartbreaking plea with: “I've spent 50 years trying to pull myself together… if you've ever noticed Meemaw limping, it's because I limp – because someone made a bad decision.

“If you go out partying this summer, please don't drive under the influence… someone could get hurt.”

Young Sheldon fans quickly flooded the comments section with tributes, with one posting: “NO!!! NOT MEEMAW!!”

A second agreed: “Meemaw! You're going to be OK, Amen!” while a third added: “I hope everything goes well, Meemaw!”

On Instagram, there were congratulations from familiar faces… including her fictional grandchildren Sheldon and Missy.

Raegan Revord (who plays Missy) wrote: “You are such a rockstar and I love you!” Sheldon actor Iain Armitage added: “You are absolutely amazing! I love you Meemaw and send you so much love!”

If you're worried that Potts' upcoming surgery might affect her cameo in “Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage,” don't worry.

Potts has already filmed her appearance for the spin-off alongside Revord and her Young Sheldon co-star Zoe Perry. The trio will appear in the first two episodes, but it is currently unknown if they will return for further episodes.

Filming for “Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage” continues, with the film's release scheduled for October 17, 2024.
