Timothee Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” will be released this Christmas

Searchlight Pictures has officially announced that Timothee Chalamet’s highly anticipated biopic, A complete unknownwill premiere in theaters on December 25. Directed by James Mangold, the film captures the early life of legendary singer Bob Dylan and his meteoric rise in the 1960s music scene.

Chalamet, widely known for his roles in dune And Wonkatakes on the role of Dylan and not only embodies the legendary musician, but also sings the music for the role and demonstrates his singing talent. The film promises an intimate portrayal of Dylan's early years and focuses on his journey as a young musician in the lively and turbulent New York music scene.

In addition to Chalamet, the film also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Dan Fogler as Albert Grossman, PJ Byrne as Harold Leventhal, Norbert Leo Butz as Alan Lomax, Will Harrison as Bob Neuwirth and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie. This all-star cast adds depth and dimension to the story, bringing to life the influential figures who shaped Dylan's career.

The film's synopsis, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, provides a vivid snapshot of the New York scene of the early 1960s: “At a vibrant and turbulent time, a 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives in the West Village, armed with his guitar and his revolutionary talent, destined to change the landscape of American music. His rise to fame brings him into deep personal relationships, but his growing dissatisfaction with the folk movement leads him to make a bold, controversial decision that will reverberate around the world.”

Director James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks, spoke of his inspiration for the project, saying, “It's such an amazing time in American culture. The story of young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with just $2 and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years is extraordinary. Dylan was initially embraced by the folk community, but eventually surpassed them on his rise and redefined his place in music history.”

A trailer for A complete unknown has already been released. Chalamet performs Dylan's classic “A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall” and features visual highlights from Dylan's life and career.
