Unrest in Britain: Metropolitan Police officers ready to be deployed in London

There is a possibility of riots in Croydon, Lewisham, Walthamstow, Brentford and Harrow this evening (7 August).

Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: “We will not tolerate unrest and will make arrests.”

In addition, the police deploy a number of specialised teams, including mounted units, dog handlers, intelligence experts and evidence collectors.

With the help of subsequent facial recognition, officers should be able to identify perpetrators more easily.

This technology can be used even if the perpetrators are wearing masks.

Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine added: “Our thanks go to Londoners who condemn the hateful and divisive behaviour that is causing significant concern in our communities.

“Everyone can do their part by not sharing inflammatory speculation online and giving our officials the freedom to carry out their important duties.”

Police urged parents to “think carefully” about where their children will be today and in the coming days.

Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: “Nobody wants to be involved in potentially violent and criminal behaviour.

“It is our privilege to be part of a city that sticks together in uncertain times. You will see more officers on patrol.

“If you are worried or need help, talk to them.

“They are there to help.”
