Heritage Days 2024: the programme at archaeological sites and excavation sites

Like every third weekend in September, the European Days are taking place again in Paris and the Île-de-France region and offer a great programme to discover. And for archaeology enthusiasts, there are many little-known sites and archaeological sites on the programme!

The European Heritage Days (Journées européennes du patrimoine) are an annual cultural event created in France in 1984, which offers the public the opportunity to discover the richness of French cultural heritage. They take place every year on third weekend in SeptemberThese days offer the opportunity to explore places that are normally closed to the public, such as historical monuments, religious buildings, Museums, Castles and even industrial sites. The aim is to raise public awareness of the need to preserve cultural heritage and to showcase treasures that are often little known but nevertheless very close by.

In Paris, the European Heritage Days are particularly important due to the diversity and density of the capital’s heritage. During this weekend, Parisians and visitors have free access to emblematic sites such as the Élysée PalaceThe senateTheHotel de Villeand many others. In addition, numerous activities are offered, including guided tours, workshops, exhibitions and conferences. Historic districts, important cultural institutions and unusual places reveal their secrets and offer a unique experience of the City of Light.

Less well known, this event is also an opportunity to discover archaeological sites, excavation sites and other places dedicated to the discovery of remains in the Île-de-France region. In each department, discover these unique sites, exceptionally open to the general public during the 2024 Heritage Days.
