Ed Sheeran writes heartwarming song for Richard Curtis' animated Christmas film

Ed Sheeran has written an original song called “Under The Tree” for the upcoming Netflix Christmas movie “That Christmas.” nme.comThe animated film, directed by Simon Otto and written and produced by Richard Curtis, is scheduled to premiere on December 6.

Sheeran, who previously worked with Curtis on the film Yesterday, was excited to be involved in this new project. He explained: “Since having kids, I've realised there's a real lack of great animated Christmas films for kids, so I thought it would be something great to make and put out into the world.”

The song, which Sheeran co-wrote with his brother Matthew, captures the emotional essence of the film, which follows the residents of a coastal town as they navigate the complexities of the holiday season. “The scene we wrote this song for is so heartbreaking, but so real for a lot of people who are spending Christmas without their loved ones for so many reasons,” Sheeran said.

Curtis, who has been friends with Sheeran for years, expressed his delight that the singer-songwriter superstar is taking part in the film. “We have been friends for many years and – especially now that he is a husband and a father – it is really nice that he plays such an important role in this film about love, children and family,” he said.

Director Simon Otto also praised Sheeran's song, saying: “The song has since become the heart of the film and motivated us artists to do our best and live up to the beauty and honesty it brings to the film. I will be eternally grateful to Ed for giving us such an honest and beautiful piece.”

Featuring a stellar vocal cast including Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker and Bill Nighy, That Christmas promises to be a heartwarming holiday treat, made even more special by the addition of Sheeran's poignant original song.
