Rochester man convicted in child pornography case triggered by cyber tip

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Rochester man has been sentenced for a recent child pornography conviction.

Court records show 30-year-old Darith Chan Hin was charged last July after Rochester police executed search warrants at three residences. The criminal complaint states that Han became the target of an investigation after police received a cyber tip about suspected child sexual abuse stored on a Verizon account linked to him.

Court documents say investigators found numerous videos on his phone showing young girls, around 8 to 10 years old, engaging in sexual acts. According to the indictment, Hin gave a statement to investigators suggesting that any child sexual abuse content on his phone was accidental. He explained that he had been “in group chats and received links to download videos” that he watched and then deleted.

Hin had previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

He was sentenced this week to ten years' probation. The ruling also requires him to register as a criminal offender.
