Fengxian promotes family values ​​at Qixi Festival

The Qixi Festival, Chinese Valentine's Day, falls on a Saturday, and Fengxian District promotes traditional family culture.

These include bazaars of “literary meetings,” group weddings, art exhibitions and performances.

Visitors to the bazaar in Xidu sub-district on Thursday experienced Qixi rituals such as sewing, facial decoration, scented pillow making and touhu (a dart throwing game).

At the stalls with lacquer fans and gold painting, they felt the timeless charm of the intangible cultural heritage and traditional crafts.

In addition, an art exhibition on the theme of love was presented. It included intangible cultural assets and interactive exhibits related to the festival, creating a cultural celebration with a skilful blend of tradition and digital technology.

The festival-themed traveling exhibition will be on display at the Bailian Nanqiao shopping center in Fengxian throughout the weekend.

A 2,000-year-old legend about two lovers inspired the festival, which takes place in China on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

The Silver River (the Milky Way) separated the cowherd Niulang and the weaver fairy Zhinu, who were forbidden by the gods to love each other. They only saw each other once a year when magpies bridged the river.
