Netflix NFL games on Christmas Day will be produced by CBS Sports

Netflix will use CBS Sports as a producer for the two National Football League games that the streamer will broadcast this Christmas.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the one-year deal with CBS Sports only covers the production of the games and not the selection of the announcers. While that doesn't preclude the use of CBS commentators, Netflix could choose to put its own stamp on the game with other selections, the WSJ reports.

CBS will receive a production fee for the two games, as well as commercials for its own programming. CBS will also receive advertising space in coverage of the games in the competing teams' local markets. Games that are streamed or broadcast on cable must be made available on local over-the-air television in the cities of the teams playing, the NFL insists.

“CBS has consistently proven to be a first-class partner,” said Brandon Riegg, vice president of series and sports at Netflix, in a statement.

Netflix's deal with the NFL includes Christmas games over the next three seasons. This year, it's the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers matchup, followed by a game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.

It has yet to be announced whether Netflix will broadcast one or more games in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
