Gracie Abrams | “I grew up with her voice”: Gracie Abrams felt like she knew Taylor Swift before they actually met

Gracie Abrams felt like she knew Taylor Swift before she even met her.

The 24-year-old singer opened for several US concerts on the music megastar's “Eras” tour last year and says her friendship with Taylor was easy because the “Anti-Hero” singer had such a big influence on her life.

Gracie told The Sunday Times newspaper: “When I met her, it felt like we already knew each other and I'm sure there was an element of that parasocial relationship involved. I grew up with her voice in my headphones all my life.”

The “Risk” singer also described Taylor as a “safe place to go” for any questions about the industry and recalled how she received some invaluable advice on dealing with back pain on tour.

Gracie said, “She recommended an acupressure mat, which really made a difference for me.”

The musician is the daughter of “Star Wars” director JJ Abrams and his wife, Hollywood producer Katie McGrath, but admits that she had no intention of following them into the world of film.

She said: “I had no interest whatsoever in being associated with my father's work growing up – not because I didn't love him, but because I just had no interest in going down that path, you know?”

Gracie's album The Secret of Us proved to be a hit when it was released in June and the star admits she is still “getting used to” her greater public profile.

She said: “I feel like it's less discreet to go somewhere. Sometimes it feels less discreet.”

“I'm adjusting a little bit in that respect. But what can you do? It's a real blessing when people recognize what I love doing.”
