Former BBC Breakfast star is inundated with congratulations after sharing career update following surprise exit

Former BBC presenter Victoria Valentine has announced that she has taken on an exciting new role, almost a year after retiring from her career as a broadcaster.

In June, the former journalist announced on Instagram that she had joined the Eden Project as a trustee.

Victoria, who left the BBC in August last year to study psychology at university, wrote: “Rapid climate change, rising sea levels, rising temperatures, loss of biodiversity, deforestation and pollution. The planet is in a state of emergency. If the planet's health is threatened, ours is threatened too.”

The former BBC Breakfast The presenter continued: “The Eden Project has big plans to expand its sites, reaching the north of the UK, as well as as far afield as Costa Rica, China and Australia. My passion for plants and my work raising awareness of the physical and mental benefits of a cleaner, greener environment are no secret. I am very pleased to announce that I am joining the Board as a Trustee as this eco-movement enters its next phase.”

The comments section was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages. One person wrote, “Congratulations sounds like this would be a great fit for you,” while another added, “Congratulations! I'm glad you're able to do something related to your 'hobby' for a living!”

Victoria left the BBC to return to university

Victoria, 40, announced her break from broadcasting just over a year ago. In August last year, the presenter, who already holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Cambridge University, announced on social media that she would be studying for the next four years.

“I wanted to share with you something I've been thinking about and working towards for some time,” she wrote. “I'm taking a little break from broadcasting and the BBC to try something new.”

“So I'm going back to university – at the ripe old age of 39. I'm enrolled in a full-time master's degree in psychology, which I sold to my parents as a kind of neuroscience with a few thinking and feeling issues thrown in.”

“You can probably understand why this excites and interests me,” the star continued, adding that she hopes to earn a doctorate as part of her studies.Maybe in four years you will see Dr. Valentine,” she wrote.

In the comments section, a follower asked if she planned to return to the BBC in the future. Victoria clarified that her career change had been more of a “break”, replying: “It is a career break. But if I've learned anything from death, divorce and single parenting, it's that nothing is as set in stone as you think, almost anything is possible and the key is to embrace change when it happens.”
