Eastern District of Virginia | Maryland felon pleads guilty to federal gun crimes in Virginia

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia – A Maryland man pleaded guilty today to illegal possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, officers with the Arlington County Police Department and a United States Marshals Service task force arrested Christian Lamont Thompson, 40, of Waldorf, at an Arlington County hotel on Feb. 27. The warrant was outstanding for violating probation following a drug trafficking conviction in the District of Columbia. When officers arrested Thompson, crack cocaine fell out of his pants. When investigators searched Thompson's room, they found a vial of PCP, plastic baggies, $680, suspected marijuana and a loaded handgun with a laser sight attached.

Because Thompson is a convicted felon, he is not allowed to possess a firearm or ammunition.

Thompson's sentencing is scheduled for November 21. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum. A federal district judge will determine the sentence, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Arlington County Police Chief Charles “Andy” Penn made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles accepted the guilty plea.

USMS provided valuable assistance in the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc J. Birnbaum is prosecuting this case.
