NOPD releases preliminary crime statistics for August 4-10, 2024

Below is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period August 4-10, 2024.

Notable arrests

During the week indicated, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

• On August 2, the NOPD re-arrested Yuan N. Buggage (black male, DOB: 05/05/2000) of Chalmette, Louisiana, as part of the ongoing investigation into a homicide that occurred in the 2100 block of Soniat Street on July 29, 2024. Buggage, who was incarcerated at the Orleans Parish Justice Center for an unrelated incident, was re-arrested for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Arrests for possession of weapons (arrests according to LA RS 14:95 and subsections)

So far this year, the NOPD has made 323 arrests for illegal possession of weapons, a 41 percent decrease compared to 545 arrests during the same period in 2023.
