In Springfield, a man was found dead in his vehicle, shot multiple times

A 23-year-old man who had been shot multiple times was found dead in his car by Springfield police at the southwest intersection of South 13th Street and Cornell Avenue on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, police said they arrived at the scene at 2:24 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting an unconscious man in a vehicle.

According to Deputy Police Chief Sara Pickford, detectives found bullet casings in the car.

When police arrived, the vehicle was still idling, Pickford said.

An autopsy was performed by the Sangamon County Coroner on Saturday.

It would be the seventh murder in the city and the second this week.

On Sunday afternoon, 17-year-old Dayquan Wiley was shot and killed in a home in the 1800 block of South 11th Street.
