Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bail after ruling that prosecutors have probable cause to charge Michael Thomas, 41, with 16 counts of terroristic acts and one count of first-degree assault. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said one of the terroristic acts counts is a Class Y felony because the victim sustained an injury.

Reed said White Hall police were called to the Big Red Travel Plaza at 8110 Sheridan Road at 8 p.m. Sunday to respond to a reported shooting, and read from an affidavit by Investigator Charles Treadway outlining the allegations against Thomas.

After Bridgforth told Thomas not to speak, Reed continued.

Thomas was ordered not to have any contact with the victim and to appear in court again on September 16.
