Hoover police arrest two suspects involved in shooting that left 16-year-old injured

HOOVER, Alabama (WBRC) – First update from Hoover Police since Monday morning's shooting that left a 16-year-old Hoover High School student injured.

Officials said the student was an innocent victim and remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital.

On Tuesday Marlon Williams and Bryan Mills were arrestedBoth of whom are facing trial for attempted murder.

The official said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed against Williams and Mills.

“This was a truly innocent 16-year-old victim and it's just a tragedy that he was a victim of gun violence in our city and that is obviously something we will not tolerate in the city of Hoover,” said Lt. Daniel Lowe.

The Hoover High School student was simply sitting in a car waiting for his family to drive him to school when he was shot Monday at the Benton Apartments on Primm Lane.

“We found numerous shell casings at the scene and arrested two people early in the investigation,” Lowe said.

As the investigation continued, officers learned that these individuals had fired back at the suspects, who shot the 16-year-old before driving away.

“We know they were shooting and we have arrested them for investigation. However, at this point in the case, the district attorney is not inclined to file charges against them,” Lt. Lowe said.

About 45 minutes after the incident, officers received a call about a person in McCalla who had been injured by a gunshot wound.

“When we began investigating the case, we determined that the two individuals from the McAdory Fire Department were the shooters in this case. They were charged with attempted murder yesterday,” said Lt. Lowe.

Marlon Williams is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail and Bryan Mills remains in custody at a local hospital.

Officials said the arrest would take place after his release.

At Hoover High School, counselors are available for students who need to talk.
