Man accused of killing woman on Phoenix Trail faces new assault and burglary charges

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Arizona's family has learned that Zion Teasley, the man accused of killing Lauren Heike on a north Phoenix hiking trail, will face new charges related to a 2020 attack.

Court records show Teasley faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and another count of first-degree burglary.

According to documents, the incident occurred in January 2020 near 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, where Teasley stabbed a woman.

Further details about the alleged incident were not initially disclosed.

Teasley reportedly murdered Heike on a hiking trail by stabbing her 15 times after she was stalked on a running trail between Scottsdale and north Phoenix in 2023.

The public prosecutor is demanding the death penalty in Heike’s murder case.

Teasley is due back in court on August 30. His murder trial is scheduled for October 2025.
