Cyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in accident in Rochester, NY

A cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car in Rochester on Wednesday.

According to Rochester Police, officers arrived at the intersection of Hudson Avenue and Route 104 around 5:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a vehicle in a ditch on the westbound ramp to Route 104 with the cyclist partially trapped.

According to police, officers and firefighters from the Rochester Fire Department worked together to lift the car off the victim. The investigation revealed that a 74-year-old woman was traveling south on Hudson Avenue and attempting to turn west onto Route 104 when her vehicle struck a 37-year-old homeless man who was riding his bicycle south on the sidewalk. The collision caused the cyclist to be pulled a short distance under the vehicle, police said.

The cyclist was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said no tickets will be issued in connection with the incident.
