Jordan Addison injury update raises major concerns about 2024 fantasy prospects

The bad luck continues to worsen for the Minnesota Vikings, as second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison was carted off the field today with an apparent leg injury after diving for a contested pass.

This news comes just hours after it was announced that rookie QB JJ McCarthy underwent surgery on Wednesday for a torn meniscus that will cause him to miss the entire season.

Sam Darnold will take over the starting passer position for Minnesota.

We have little information on Jordan Addison's injury so far, but it's safe to say we should be concerned about Minnesota's pass-catching group.

Addison is expected to build on a promising rookie season. Addison scored seven touchdowns in his first eight weeks of the 2023 season and recorded 70 receptions for 911 yards and ten total touchdowns by the end of his rookie season.

Hopefully this is just the Vikings being overly cautious, but if Addison misses all or part of this season, it would be a major blow to Minnesota's offense.

Justin Jefferson will also be elite with Darnold at quarterback. Jefferson averaged 18.6 fantasy points per game in five games last year with a combination of Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall at quarterback. Jefferson's target share could rival that of CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys as pass-catching opportunities dwindle in Minnesota.

TJ Hockenson could be out until November as he recovers from his season-ending knee injury. It's important to note that Hockenson's medial ligament was healing before he underwent ACL surgery in January of this year. The typical recovery time for ACL surgery is 8-10 months. While Hockenson will be cared for by top-notch medical and physical therapy staff, when he returns, fantasy managers should expect a gradual return to play.

That leaves players like Jalen Nailor, Trent Sherfield, Sr. and Johnny Mundt to soak up the rest of the targets. So, yes, it's fair to say we should be worried, and no, none of them are fantasy sleepers.

Running back Aaron Jones should get a boost, though. He's a strong pass receiver who will likely get a few extra throws from Darnold.

There have already been questions about Jordan Addison this season, as he was recently arrested for drunk driving. This is Addison's second run-in with the law, and his hearing is scheduled for October 7 in California. Depending on the outcome of the case, Addison could face a 2-4 game suspension, or no suspension at all.

This could be a dynasty buy window for Jordan Addison. We'll need more news in the redraft. Stay tuned to Sports Illustrated Fantasy for more updates.
