Atlantic City man brutally beaten in prison dies

An Atlantic City man who was beaten unconscious by a fellow inmate in the Atlantic County Jail in 2022 has died.

Hassan Robinson, 44, was paralyzed and unable to speak after the brutal attack in a holding cell on September 13, 2022, which was captured on video.

“We all quit our jobs to take care of him,” said Robinson's sister, Khalima Robinson, adding that she, her niece Nahasia Robinson and her nephew Chris Leslie “took care of him until he died.”

Another sister, Bettina Robinson, was responsible for all his doctors.

“He didn't deserve this death,” said his good friend Misty Gullo. “Nobody deserves this.”

The funeral is scheduled for August 23rd at 12:00 p.m. at Mikal Funeral Home, 30 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Atlantic City. Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m.

No motive was ever given as to why Shakur allegedly attacked Aabid Robinson as they were being taken to the same cell for their court dates.

Surveillance shows Shakur hitting Aabid Robinson and then “continuously punching him in the face,” according to the affidavit, which BreakingAC previously reported. “Robinson immediately falls onto a bench as Aabid continues to punch and kick him. As Robinson falls to the ground, Aabid continues to stomp on his head and face repeatedly.”

At some point, Robinson apparently ended up under the bench. But that didn't stop Aabid, the detective wrote.

“Aabid pulls Robinson out from under the bench, moves him into a different position and continues to stomp on his head and face with his right foot while Robinson lies unconscious,” the affidavit states.

When Aabid finished, “he walked to the cell door, turned around and placed his hands behind his back for the responding officers.”

Aabid, now 29, is accused of attempted murder.

The Atlantic County District Attorney's Office told BreakingAC that the charge could be upgraded to murder until the autopsy results are available.

Aabid was in jail at the time on auto theft charges. He allegedly pistol-whipped a man and stole his car outside the New York Deli at 649 N. New York Ave. on April 3, 2022.

Since then, further investigations have led to additional cases, including an attack on March 28, 2022, that left a young girl unconscious.

Aabid, who is listed as Abid in the previous charges, is due to appear in court on a total of eight counts later this month, according to court records.

He is incarcerated in Mercer County Jail, where he was transferred on December 20, 2022. The exact reason is unclear.

Robinson suffered significant injuries, as shown in this photo previously provided by his family.
