Murder suspect arrested, police-involved shooting in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. (KPTV) – A wanted man was located in Eugene on Wednesday and shot by a police officer during a standoff that lasted more than two hours before being taken to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound, according to Eugene police.

On Wednesday, at approximately 2 p.m., Eugene police located a Portland man wanted for attempted premeditated murder with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and illegal possession of a weapon.

He was under surveillance by detectives as he drove off in his truck at around 4:30 p.m. Two SWAT vehicles detained him to prevent his escape. The Crisis Negotiation Team negotiated with the man for nearly 2.5 hours before shots were fired at around 6:30 p.m.

Officers then approached the suspect with riot shields, although it was believed he was still armed.

First aid was administered with a tourniquet and the suspect was taken to this hospital for further treatment.

The incident occurred at the corner of West 12th Avenue and Arthur Street. Residents one block away were given an emergency warning to stay indoors and avoid the area.
