2 toddlers thrown from car after rollover crash in East Houston, authorities say

HOUSTON – Two young children were thrown from one of the vehicles in a two-vehicle rollover accident in East Houston earlier this week.

Authorities responded to the crash around 7 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 10 near the Freeport Street exit.

Investigators told KPRC that a Jeep Wrangler was traveling in one lane next to a Chrysler 200 traveling in another lane. The Chrysler attempted to change lanes that the Jeep Wrangler was traveling in, resulting in the collision.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the impact caused the Jeep to overturn and the children, ages 1 and 4, were thrown from the vehicle.

After the accident, a driver filmed the children running on the highway and being carried out of the wreckage by two unknown adults.

The Jeep driver, the children's 25-year-old father and the children were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was uninjured, officials said.

Because the children were not secured in car seats, the father could face charges, KPRC reported Wednesday.

No charges have yet been brought against the father of the toddlers.
