‘Police everywhere’ at Middleton shopping centre as emergency services rush to ‘incident in toilets’

On Tuesday evening (August 6), police stormed Middleton after an incident was reported in the toilets of a shopping district.

Paramedics and forensics officers were at the crime scene in the Middleton Shopping Centre, presumably in the toilet at around 5pm. Reports that it was a stabbing have not been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

Witnesses reported seeing a man being taken away from the scene in an ambulance after the knife attack was reported. Images from the crime scene on Tuesday evening showed several police vehicles on site and forensic investigators conducting investigations.

In the early afternoon, more police vehicles and an ambulance were seen near Middleton Gardens. There was speculation that the incidents had happened in the toilets.

The mall later announced that the toilets had been “out of order” throughout the evening, but it is unclear whether this is related.

One witness said on social media that there were “police everywhere” and another said a man was “carried on a stretcher into a waiting ambulance” parked outside the Edgar Wood pub.

Another posted: “I was just passing by when a second ambulance arrived with its lights flashing and the paramedics took him out on a stretcher. What a horrible world we live in at the moment.”

Greater Manchester Police have not yet confirmed the nature of the incident, but have been contacted by the Manchester evening news.
