Man arrested after fatal hit-and-run accident in Visalia

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash Monday night in Visalia, Visalia police announced.

Officials said they arrested 31-year-old Jorge Torres in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead.

Police said they were called to the area between Caldwell Avenue and Ben Maddox Way around 10:30 p.m. Monday to a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.

Investigators say the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect's vehicle was found abandoned nearby after he fled the scene.

Visalia Traffic Police took over the investigation and said they identified Torres as a suspect in the case. With assistance from Visalia's enforcement unit, drug enforcement unit and HOPE unit, Torres was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The identity of the pedestrian was not disclosed.
