On Tuesday, China Grove officers monitored a known gathering place for stolen vehicles, including motorcycles, the exchange of contraband and the use of illegal drugs.

Officers observed three motorcycles leaving the area before one of the motorcycles turned away from the group and headed to another area of interest before returning to FM 1346.

Officers continued to pursue the three motorcycles and attempted to obtain their license plates, but the motorcyclists quickly realized they were being followed.

The motorcycle that had previously broken away from the field sped away while the other two motorcycles tried to get in its way.

The fleeing motorcycle drove to Loop 1604 and turned left. Officers were able to catch up with the motorcycle near Loop 1604 and I-10.

As the motorcycles reached the intersection of Loop 1604 and Graytown Road, they were greeted by a long double column of vehicles.

The cyclist had decided to ride through a red light, use the narrow shoulder to overtake traffic, and was hit from the side.

Chine Grove officers secured the scene and removed people from the burning motorcycle.

Converse Police and ESM personnel arrived at the scene to assist. Police seized evidence at the scene, including two handguns, drugs and drug paraphernalia from the motorcycle and surrounding area.

China Grove police said the motorcycle involved in the crash was registered in Laredo and was reported stolen in Bexar County on July 9.

The driver of the motorcycle was reportedly wanted in Bexar County for drug trafficking and was known to authorities as a repeat offender.
