Ingredients

  • 180g Butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup white sugar, plus 1 cup extra, for rolling
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup dark molasses
  • 2 cups normal flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger

Cooling time: 2 hours

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until well combined. Stir in molasses. In a second large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and ground spices. Mix well, then gradually stir into molasses mixture until a thick dough forms. Cover dough and refrigerate for 2 hours before using.
  2. When you're ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (fan). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Place the extra cup of sugar in a small bowl and set aside. Remove the chilled cookie dough from the refrigerator and roll into 1-ounce balls. Roll the cookie balls in the white sugar, twist to coat, then place on the baking sheets.
  3. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the top cracks. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve Grandma's Famous Molasses Cookies slightly warm.
