Man shot while cycling on Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia; 3 suspects sought

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man is dead after a shooting in South Philadelphia on Wednesday.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. in the 1500 block of Snyder Avenue.

According to police reports, they found a 25-year-old man at the crime scene who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators believe that at least 40 shots were fired at the victim while he was riding his bicycle and even while he was lying on the ground.

The incident was captured on video by a local business and a SEPTA bus in the area, authorities say.

According to police, the video shows the victim driving down the street when three men get out of a dark sedan – possibly a Nissan – and start shooting.

“This victim appears to have been targeted and executed,” noted Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. “On camera, the shooters are seen standing over the victim's body after he is shot, falls to the ground, and still standing over him, shooting him multiple times.”

The victim reportedly lived just five blocks from the shooting scene.

Authorities are currently searching for the suspects, who were last seen heading east on Snyder Avenue.

Small told Action News he was surprised that such a brazen crime took place in broad daylight.

“It's a beautiful summer night, the weather is really nice. It was broad daylight at 7 p.m. We know there were a lot of people out here because the corner of 15th Street and Synder is not only a residential area, but there are also a lot of businesses that are still open,” Small said.

With so much going on in the neighborhood, Small is thankful no one else was hurt.

“We know that there is a lot of car and pedestrian traffic here. Since 40 shots were fired, we can be very, very happy that there are no further casualties,” he commented.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
