Fatal shooting delays KC Fire Department response to medical call

KANSAS CITY – Police are investigating another fatal shooting in Kansas City.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Kansas City Fire Department responded to a medical call from the Georgian Court Apartment Complex in the 400 block of E. Armour Boulevard in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

The fire brigade on site heard the shots and called the police and additional forces.

One patient was treated and transported in critical condition. He died a short time later, according to Kansas City police. The original medical emergency call was handled by the additional forces requested, according to Hopkins.

Officers discovered a suspicious person near the crime scene. The potential suspect was held in custody for 24 hours.

After a preliminary investigation, police believe there was a confrontation between the victim and the person in question prior to the shooting. According to Hopkins, Kansas City firefighters were not in danger at the time of the shooting.
