Man shot dead in Northport early Thursday morning

Northport Police officers responded to the scene of a homicide early Thursday morning that reportedly left one man dead.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said NPD and VCU were on the scene of a shooting in the 3700 block of 17th Street in Northport.

One man was dead, Kennedy said, and no further information was available as of 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to Thread staff, this is already the 23rd murder case in Tuscaloosa County in 2024 – and is moving closer to the historic high of 26 murder cases, which was only recorded in 2006 and 1975.
