Former Georgia prison guard arrested on inmate cruelty and other charges

WALTON CO – The GBI has arrested a former Georgia prison guard for assaulting a handcuffed inmate.

The GBI has arrested 39-year-old former Walton County Sheriff's Office Jailer Jeffrey Sean Day of Monroe, GA, and charged him with aggravated assault, cruelty to inmates, and violation of his oath of office.

On August 1, 2024, the Walton County Sheriff's Office requested that the GBI investigate allegations that a former Walton County Jail guard physically injured a handcuffed Walton County inmate on Sunday, July 28, 2024. The inmate sustained injuries that required medical treatment.

Day was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Walton County Jail.

Once the case is closed, the file will be turned over to the District Attorney of the Alcovy Judicial District for prosecution.
