City police investigate Wednesday shooting | News, Sports, Jobs



Dunkirk police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers were notified of the incident in the 300 block of Washington Avenue and learned that one person had been struck by gunfire. The injury does not appear to be life-threatening at this time. The victim was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital by private vehicle and later transferred to ECMC in Buffalo. Police say the incident was directed at people who know each other.

The New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and Fredonia Police Department assisted the Dunkirk Police Department.

The Dunkirk Police Department Detective Bureau, Crime Scene Unit and K-9 Unit also assisted.
