Teenager injured after boating accident at Holland South Pierhead

PARK TWP. – A teenager was injured in a boating accident at the Holland South Pierhead on Wednesday, August 14, according to police.

Officers from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Park Township Fire Department and AMR Ambulance responded to a boating accident that left one person in the water around 10:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 26-foot boat that had crashed into the pier head approximately 75 yards east of the navigation beacon. The boat was piloted by a 69-year-old man from Holland who had three female passengers, ages 18, 19 and 22.

After the accident, the 18-year-old was thrown from the boat and into the water and onto the rocks on the side of the pier facing Lake Macatawa. She was rescued from the water by another passenger.

She suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
