Famous Amos Cookies inventor Wally Amos dies at the age of 88

It is a sad day for chocolate chip cookie lovers. The famous Amos Cookies founder Wally Amos has died at the age of 88. He died in his home in Honolulu.

According to the New York Times, Amos died from complications of dementia. His children mourned their father in a touching tribute. “Our father inspired a generation of entrepreneurs,” his children said, adding: “With his Panama hat, his kazoo and his boundless optimism, Famous Amos was a great American success story and a source of black pride. It is also part of our family history, for which we will be forever grateful and proud.”

Amos started his business by turning his passionate hobby into a career. He opened his first Famous Amos cookie shop on Sunset Boulevard. Marvin Gaye played a big role in starting the business. Before he started cooking, Amos worked as a talent agent. Gaye helped him get the $25,000 loan that started his business.

“I started baking as a hobby; it was a kind of therapy,” Amos told the Times in 1975. “I would go to meetings with record companies or movie people and bring some cookies, and pretty soon everyone was asking for them.” But his passion soon took on a life of its own. By 1981, Famous Amos was a $12 million company. In addition to multiple locations, the company began selling its cookies at retail outlets.

As for the cookie founder, he continued to appear in entertainment, making guest appearances on The Jeffersons, taxi And The officeIn 1988, he sold his share of the company and became a motivational speaker and author. He later opened a bakery in Honolulu to pursue his passion for cookies.

He leaves behind his wife Carol Williams and four children as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
