1 dead and 2 injured in accident in Lenawee County

A 72-year-old Lenawee County man is dead and an elderly woman is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, Michigan State Police said.

At around 9:30 p.m., police were called to a location on Tecumseh Clinton Highway near Allen Road in Clinton for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries, officials said.

The police found one dead and two others injured.

A 75-year-old Clinton woman was flown by helicopter to an Ann Arbor hospital where she is in critical condition, authorities said. A 38-year-old Tecumseh woman was taken by paramedics to an Ann Arbor hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours while state police investigated.

According to a preliminary investigation, a GMC Terrain driven by a 72-year-old man was traveling north on the highway when it was struck by a blue Jeep Wrangler driven by the Tecumseh woman, which was traveling south. Police said the 75-year-old woman was a passenger in the GMC during the crash.

Officials said the driver of the Jeep was cooperating with police. They believe alcohol played a role in the accident.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing and anyone with information should call Trooper Cooper Roberts at (734) 242-3500.
